DOW UAP D094 Analysis of Flying Object Incidents in the US 1949

This image is a page from DOW-UAP-D094, a USAF Air Intelligence Division study titled 'Analysis of Flying Object Incidents in the United States,' Study No. 203, dated 28 April 1949. According to the releasing source, the study assesses reported unidentified flying object incidents and theories accounting for their nature and origin, concluding that 'it appears that some object has been seen; however, the identification of that object cannot be readily accomplished.' It offers two 'reasonable' origins — technologies of domestic or foreign origin — and suggests that, if foreign, the United States should prudently assume UFO observations are attributable to scientific, military, or intelligence activities of the Soviet Union and take seriously any threat such objects may pose. The file also contains selected contemporary UFO reports and examples of experimental 'flying wing' type aircraft planforms that might account for certain commonly reported UFO characteristics. The displayed page features a hand-drawn sketch (Fig. 9) of a long, cylindrical object with rectangular windows. AARO comments that this file appears to be a later revision of DOW-UAP-D093, whose content is substantively similar.
