This two-page CIA Foreign Documents Division (FDD) note, dated March 1959, presents the full-text translation of a report from the Oslo conservative newspaper Aftenposten (16 March 1959, AM edition). The item recounts that several persons near Bergen, Norway, observed five bright objects in the sky on the evening of 12 March 1959. According to witness Birger Storesund of Storesund, near Bergen, the objects all crossed the sky from north to south. The first was seen at 2010 hours and took about two minutes to cross before disappearing beneath the horizon; in size and appearance it was compared to Soviet sputniks. About five minutes later a second object appeared, followed by a third, fourth, and fifth. Several of Storesund's neighbors reportedly also saw the objects, which made no sound and were also observed through binoculars.
