1972 Intel Report on Charged Mass in Space at Conference on Origins of Life, Armenia

This declassified CIA Intelligence Information Report, dated 10 April 1972, consists of edited abstracts from a letter received from a reliable US colleague who attended the Conference on the Origins of Life in Yerevan, Armenia (Armenian SSR), on 6-8 September 1971. It describes a highly speculative paper on general relativity presented by N.S. Kardashev of the Institute for Space Research, Moscow, co-authored with the internationally famous theoretical physicist Andrei D. Sakharov. The paper concerned what happens when a charged mass or body collapses in space: whereas an uncharged mass would collapse past the point of gravitational singularity and be lost forever, a charged mass could 'bounce' back out into a different part of spacetime. Kardashev reportedly said Sakharov was chiefly interested in the phenomenon because it suggested the structure of space may be more complicated than presently thought, while Kardashev focused on its astrophysical implications. The US attendee considered the speculation somewhat fantastic but grounded in good and sound physics. The report was released by the U.S. Department of War (war.gov) in June 2026 as CIA-UAP-008; a more redacted version had previously been available on the CIA's public website.

The Kardnshev-Sakharov paper concerned the authors' study of vhat hnppene
when a charged mass or bod,v collapses in space. Knrdn.:.hcv stnteci that,
