CIA Director Cable — French Television Carries Four Interviews re CIA Role in U.S. and Abroad

This two-page CIA cable (record number 104-10130-10088), originating from the Paris station and addressed to the Director, reports on an Agence France-Presse (AFP) release announcing that French television Channel One (ORTF) would carry a series of four ten-minute interviews that week concerning the CIA's role in the United States and abroad. The interviews were conducted by ORTF reporter Michel Anfrol and scheduled as follows: Tuesday 10 June — Frank Sturgis, former chief of aerial security in Cuba and one of the Watergate burglars, who claims to have prepared several assassination plans against Castro; Wednesday 11 June and Friday 13 June — Harry Rositzke, a CIA division chief and KGB specialist, who explains and defends the work of the Agency; and Monday 16 June — Philippe Thyraud de Vosjoli (codename TOPAZ), former SDECE representative in Washington, who would give his opinion of the CIA and on 'assassination attempts and the Kennedy affair.' The cable notes that as a strictly French TV production, no repercussions were expected from the (intelligence) union regarding de Vosjoli's role. The file is designated SECRET, restriction 1B, filed under MHORDER, and was released with deletions. It is part of the 2025 JFK Assassination Records release by the National Archives.
