CIA Station Cable re: Subject Contact (FAMA 5803, 10 October 1968)

This file is a CIA internal dispatch classified SECRET, dated 10 October 1968 (FAMA 5803), circulated among the Chief of Station Bangkok, Chief of Station Rangoon, Chief of the Far East Division, and Chief of Station Melbourne. The communication asks whether it is still desired for the Melbourne Station to contact an unnamed subject. It reports that, in response to a letter querying his general plans, the subject replied (per attachment) indicating he could make himself available after 4 November 1968 for discussions in Melbourne. The Station defers to the Director on whether to move the subject to Melbourne for talks along lines indicated in a prior Bangkok reference. A second paragraph directs Rangoon's attention to a paragraph of the subject's letter noting that his daughter and family plan to leave Rangoon permanently; it is unclear whether overtly or covertly. Prior reporting (BANGKOK 9542 of 1 May 1968) indicated the daughter is married to a Burma Air Force pilot, but the absence of names makes further information from Rangoon unlikely. An attachment (a letter) is referenced. The document was released by the National Archives on 18 March 2025 under the President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act of 1992.
